Who Delivers the Meals?

The meals are delivered by a dedicated group of volunteers.  Every Monday through Friday they travel across Blair County delivering meals for the program.  Without the help of these caring individuals, we would not be able to bring these meals to you.

How are the Meals Prepared?

Each meal is prepared in Blair Senior Services’ Production Kitchen by the Agency’s contracted nutrition provider. The provider follows mandated nutritional and cleanliness guidelines when preparing meals.  In this way, each meal is guaranteed to provide you with one-third of the required daily nutritional allowance, as determined by the US Department of Health and Human Services.  Special diets, including low sodium, low concentrated sweets and pureed meals are available under the guidance of your doctor.

Do I Have to Pay for My Meals?

Your contributions are very important!  It requires extensive effort by the Agency to coordinate the preparation and delivery of these meals.  Every month you will receive a statement of the number of meals you received during that period, and an estimated dollar value for those meals, which reflects only the cost of food and preparation.

We encourage you to contribute as much of that cost as you can afford.  Without these contributions, the Agency would have to reduce the level of service for this vital program.

Helpful Hints:

To Cancel a Meal, Change a Meal, or Make a Referral for a Family Member or a Friend, please call us at (814) 946-1235 or 1-800-245-3282 and ask for Intake.  The Intake Worker will make sure your meal or meal delivery is adjusted according to your request.  When canceling a meal, please call at least 24 hours in advance.  To cancel after business hours, call 946-1235 and leave a message that includes your name, address and telephone number.  If you must cancel the day of your meal delivery, please call before 9 a.m.  If you reach us after 9 a.m., it may be too late to contact the volunteer who delivers your meal.

Please remember that each meal provided by the Meals on Wheels Program offers one-third of the Required Daily Allowance for nutrition.  Please supplement your noon-day meal with a nutritious breakfast and evening meal.  Assistance for both of these meals is available when appropriate.

Meal Reheating Instructions:
