Blair Senior Services, Inc.’s Foster Grandparent Program is one of the many unique programs the Agency offers. Being a Foster Grandparent to area children is rewarding and beneficial to the Foster Grandparent volunteer and the children they come to know very well. Foster Grandparents serve as surrogate grandparents for children whose extended family may live out-of-town or who do not have a relationship with their grandparents. If you would like to become a Foster Grandparent and make a positive difference in a child’s life, call (814) 946-1235.
This is a common question in most households across the country. However, for some homebound Blair County senior citizens, purchasing and preparing a nutritious meal is not an option. The Home Delivered Meals Program, operated by Blair Senior Services, Inc., helps to combat food insecurity issues for eligible senior citizens by delivering hot and wholesome meals. Over 600 meals are prepared and distributed per delivery day in Blair County, which totals more than 145,000 meals each year.
Let’s face it: Medicare can be confusing. Enrollees encounter a lot of tough decisions when it comes to choosing the right coverage plan and sorting through all of the different benefit options. The process sometimes feels plastered with red tape and laden with unfamiliar jargon. And who can keep track of all the different policies and benefits for Medicare Parts A, B, and D, let alone all the private supplemental options that are out there? To make matters worse, people face harsh penalties if they fail to register properly, and confused enrollees risk missing out on discounts and financial assistance. Some even end up paying for coverage they don’t want or missing out on coverage options that they need.
